Dr. Garrison is academically and clinically trained to diagnose and treat both mental health and substance abuse disorders, and he individualizes treatment based on his patients needs and best practices. 

During his career, he has served as a clinical director, clinical supervisor and clinician of major behavioral-care outpatient centers and programs.

Regardless of his roles, Dr. Garrison has consistently maintained a private psychotherapy practice

For many years, Dr. Garrison taught full time at Capella University teaching PhD and master’s level counseling students the art and science of psychotherapy.  He is also a published researcher (counseling ethics and object relations therapy) in the counseling field.

Throughout the years, he has done media appearances for local cable and radio programs speaking about a host of clinical issues.  Dr. Garrison has traveled extensively throughout the United States conducting various personal-growth and treatment-oriented workshops.

Dr. Garrison previously served as the President of the American Psychotherapy and Medical Hypnosis Association, a National Professional Association for licensed mental health professionals and medical providers who integrate clinical hypnosis in their practices.  Dr. Garrison continues to present at professional mental health conferences.

He relocated to Maine in 2014 and maintains a busy full-time private practice.   In addition to seeing patients, he also provides clinical supervision and consultation for licensed mental health providers.  Dr. Garrison cares very much about people and human rights.  He believes in the dignity and worth of all people.  Dr. Garrison enjoys spending his free time with family, friends, nature, and traveling.
